Can You Believe?
Can you believe?

Can you believe in your dream, in your vision when no else can see it?
Michelangelo once proclaimed, “I saw the angel in the marble and I chiseled until I set it free.”
I’m sure people looked at Michelangelo pounding that marble thinking he was crazy because to them it was only a lump of stone. But it wasn’t about them. It’s not about other people; it’s about you and your vision.
When things seem against us. When mistakes pile up and our boss is telling us we aren’t doing enough. When our energy drops and frustration sets in. And our vision, our goals and our hopes seem so bleak, how many of us just want to give up and say, “Today just isn’t my day?”
Yup, I’m raising my hand. I’ve been there too! As a coach, I always told my players to keep their head up no matter what happened. My reasoning was that, once your head drops, your heart drops and when your heart drops there isn’t any hope anymore and when there is no hope you are easily defeated.
I believe hope is the most powerful source in the universe. Hope is more powerful than fear. When there is hope we know in our heart that we can bear most anything. With hope all things seem possible.
When it feels like I am doing things in vain, I think about the stone cutters creed, which reads, “When nothing seems to help, I go look at a stone cutter hammering away at his rock, perhaps a hundred times without as much as a crack showing in it... yet at the hundred and first blow it will split in two and I know it was not that blow that did it, but all that had gone before.”
No matter how bleak things seem, I keep pounding. I focus on my internal vision more than what I see with my eyes. My eyes may deceive me, but my heart never will.
And when you find yourself in a similar place I hope you’ll do the same. I hope you’ll keep pounding. Keep the hope. Because in the end only you know your dreams, you know your goals, and you have your plan.
It is said that the picture the artist paints for love of his art is his greatest work. And I agree.
Live your vision, your dream, your goals from the inside out. And always keep hope alive because only you know what lies behind that marble. Keep believing like Michelangelo because eventually the stone will break in your favor.
And the best part about it all, is that I’ll be pounding my stone right next to you. And we’ll give each other courage. We are not alone. You are never alone. I am always with you.
